6.26 Can we solve hunger by evangelisation? Why does God want me to give witness of my faith? Can I evangelise through my profession?
People in physical need also have spiritual needs. Integral human development demands attention not only to the food and water people need, but also their spiritual wellbeing. The proclamation of the hopeful message of the Gospel is the best way to help people spiritually.
Every Christian, however imperfect, is called to give witness of their faith (Mk 16:15). You do so in the first place by simply trying to live as a good Christian. Only when you live in accordance with your faith, will your words be credible. There are many places where priests and nuns cannot go. We need all Christians to join in with our task to live the faith and proclaim the Gospel through our lives. That way you can evangelise through your profession too.
Why must the Church proclaim the Gospel to the whole world?
The Church must do so because Christ has given the command: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). This missionary mandate of the Lord has its origin in the eternal love of God who has sent his Son and the Holy Spirit because “he desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4) [CCCC 172].
In what sense is the Church missionary?
The Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, continues the mission of Christ himself in the course of history. Christians must, therefore, proclaim to everyone the Good News borne by Christ; and, following his path, they must be ready for self-sacrifice, even unto martyrdom [CCCC 173].
Why is the Christian moral life indispensable for the proclamation of the Gospel?
Because their lives are conformed to the Lord Jesus, Christians draw others to faith in the true God, build up the Church, inform the world with the spirit of the Gospel, and hasten the coming of the Kingdom of God [CCCC 433].
Christian life requires dynamism, and it requires a willingness to walk, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide… The world needs Christians who allow themselves to be moved, who do not tire of walking on life’s streets, to bring the comforting Word of Jesus to everyone. Every baptised person has received the vocation to proclaim… Jesus [Pope Francis, Angelus, 2 Feb. 2020].
